What Are The Wild Shopping For This Black Friday?

With our bellies stuffed with turkey, it is now time for the holiday shopping season. Black Friday is one of the craziest times of the year, where everyone is looking for the best bargain. It got me thinking, what are the Minnesota Wild looking to bargain for this Black Friday? Here are a couple items I think that the Wild should be searching for:

Consistence In Net

After Darcy Kuemper’s poor performance Wednesday night against the Kings, where he allowed 4 goals in the first period before getting pulled, the Wild seem to have goalie problems once again. Darcy has had his good days, including three shutouts, but he has also had his bad days, including being pulled in two games already this season. Backstrom has been okay but he has also had his troubles, only having five starts and beening pulled once this season too. The ups and downs of the Wild’s goaltending situation is not going to get it down for a team that wants to be a Stanley Cup contender this season. To become cup contender the Wild need to find a consist goalie. Whether it is the young Kuemper, the veteran Backstrom, or even Josh Harding who has returned from a broke foot and is playing down in the AHL with the Iowa Wild.

Vanek To Find The Net

Thomas Vanek seemed to be a perfect fit for the Minnesota Wild because he was suppose to be a goal scoring threat every time he touched the ice. That is not the case so far this season. The veteran Vanek only has one goal this season and looks very heist when shooting the puck. He has looked handcuffed this season. He is a player brought to Minnesota to add scoring to their struggling offense last season and right now he looks like he is afraid to score. He has been trying to make that extra pass instead of putting the puck on net and releasing that wicked wrister we all know he has. After stuffing your tummy with turkey on Thursday, Vanek, you need to come to the rink on Friday looking to score goals. The Wild are looking for Vanek to find his scoring touch this Black Friday. Will it happen? Wild fans sure hope so.

Road Wins

The Wild have been a force at home winning 7 of the 9 games at the Xcel Energy Center. On the road though, they are 5-7-0. Their road record has been improving as of late but still needs to get better. To become a legitimate cup contender the Wild have to find ways to get points on the road. The Wild have a three game home stretch coming up but then they hit a big three game road trip against the Sharks, Coyotes, and Blackhawks. Three Western Conference foes that the Wild need to pick up points from. Black Friday has the Wild bargaining for some wins of the road.

A Cure For The Mumps

Jonas Brodin has missed they 8 games with the Mumps illness. During the time that Brodin has missed the Wild have had trouble replacing him on their blueline. Brodin was averaging over 23 minutes of ice time before he went out with the Mumps. Defensemen Dumba, Prosser, and Ballard have been trying to replace Brodin but are a combined -9 on the year. Brodin was a +6 before his illness. Getting Brodin back would be a huge lift for the Wild.

The Wild return to action tonight on the road against the Dallas Stars, who have been on fire as of late. The Wild are looking for a bounce back win on Black Friday after their poor performance on Wednesday. A 4-0 lose to the LA Kings. Hopefully the Wild can find some thing on their wish list and get back to their winning ways. Happy holidays from 2PS!
